Himmat Shah - Artwork 262

A vertically oriented head formed from repeated, ridged elements presents a mask-like visage carved from stacked, rectangular modules; the dark, nearly black patina underscores the work’s emphasis on rhythm and construction. The marked, repetitive strokes that form the features give the piece a woodcut-like quality, compressing expression into a pattern of relief and shadow. The stylized treatment of eyes, nose and mouth reduces the face to archetypal marks, suggesting an exploration of identity through modular assembly and textured surfaces.

The sculpture’s frontal intensity and chiseled contours create a strong, enigmatic presence that feels both primitive and modern.
