Shyamal Dutta Roy - Artwork 409

A small, expressive watercolor study of a figure—perhaps an archer—painted in earthy browns, reds and deep blacks, framed within a wide white mat.

The brushwork is vigorous and textured, the anatomy stylized into planes and facets that emphasize volume and movement rather than photographic detail. The image conveys an energetic, almost sculptural sense of form: layered washes and strong linear accents produce a feeling of weathered strength and quiet drama, while the limited format and intimate scale invite close viewing of the artist’s hand and the materiality of watercolor on paper.
