Sohrai Jharkhand - Artwork 669

Executed in vivid greens on a pale ground, this Sohrai panel features a large stylized bird or elephant-like hybrid and a chorus of smaller birds and plants, all traced in confident, flat shapes. The composition relies on negative space and simplified silhouettes to create a lively motif-driven scene that reads like a festive folktale rendered in linocut-like precision. A narrow double border and a strong matting emphasize the painting’s graphic clarity, while the hand-painted textures of the canvas and brushwork retain an artisanal warmth.

The piece merges traditional tribal motifs with a restrained modern palette, offering a fresh, decorative take on Jharkhand’s Sohrai lineage.
