Bandana Kumari - Artwork 9

A regal anthropomorphic lion figure is seated on an ornate golden throne against a flat turquoise field, executed with precise linework and richly patterned surfaces. The creature’s body is covered in intricate motifs and floral ornament, its posture composed and oddly modern—wearing necklaces and red high-heeled sandals—melding traditional iconography with playful contemporary costume and attitude. The piece balances whimsical storytelling and formal discipline: the vivid background isolates the central figure, allowing the detailed internal patterns and the chair’s gilt ornament to read like miniature narratives.

The result is a polished, decorative composition that subverts expectations about power, identity and the mixing of human and animal archetypes.
