Ramesh Gorjala - Artwork 99

A richly patterned tableau in jewel-like greens and blues, this work depicts a central female figure at a doorway surrounded by stylized flora, birds and ancillary figures peering through windows. Intricate linear ornament and flattened, decorative color planes evoke traditional Indian pictorial traditions while remaining distinctly contemporary in palette and compositional compression. The scene balances intimate storytelling and decorative surface: the central woman’s posture and attire imply ritual or domestic significance, while the surrounding motifs—banana leaves, peacocks and window scenes—frame her within a microcosm of village life.

The painting’s hand-drawn details and vivid chromatic choices make it both narrative and ornamental, inviting prolonged viewing to uncover its small vignettes.
